‘Security trap’ is a hidding structure created to distract security. It was inspired by László Moholy-Nagy’s constructivist structure that reflected different shadows when pointed with light while it rotated. ‘Security trap’ consists on the juxtaposition of hand-made and prefabricated bubble wrap wrapped in electric pipes to create different volumes that resembles to buildings of different heights. The installation plays with the transparency of the bubble wrap and casts shadows that simulate the effect of water when it is pointed with RGB light. The colored lights create a blurred image of the structure and distracts the person with the shadows, hence the person pointing with the light gets trapped in his own mind.
MATERIAL EXPLORATION
The project started with the exploration of sealed plastic pockets and non-airy pockets. It also explores the qualities of plastic, its transparency and how layering them with objects can decrease the transparency of the material. For this project, the brief was to create a hidding installation inside the Royal College of Art, Kensington campus buildings, so the objects used in these pockets are for survival while being hidden.
